Syndicate 5 - Mini Olympics

Each Friday afternoon we have been participating in our own Mini Olympics. Our sports so far have ranged from Soccer, Netball, Pictionary, Indoor Volleyball & Tube Wrestling. It has been great to get out and challenge the other classes to a variety of activities. D3's very own Canadian and French teams have been holding up well so far in the competition.

Lynley Dodd - Hairy Maclary

Bethlehem College had a visit this week from Lynley Dodd the author and illustrator of the Hairy Maclary book series and many other great books. It as wonderful to hear how she gets her ideas for her books and the time and effort she puts into producing 1 picture book, it is certainly not as easy as many of us thought. Lynley Dodd inspired us to be creative and gave us a true insight into following our goals and passions. Thanks Lynley.

D3's Argos Gym Visits from Sarah Stock on Vimeo.

Syndicate 5 have enjoyed their time at Argos Gym. It has been awesome to use the equipment and develop some gymnastic skills. As you can see we have participated in a huge range of activities and all of the children have been challenged to take a risk and have a go. Thanks Argos Gym.

arriving in africa

We have arrived in Kalene Hospital which is in the North West corner of Zambia. We had a long trip in local buses which took about 3 days altogether! The roads are really bad with lots of big potholes.
Our house is really big and nice. It is right beside the runway for the little planes that come to take people in and out. The plane is only a 6-seater and everything has to be weighed - people and luggage.
Dad is busy at the hospital and I have been helping mum feed some little premature babies. They have to have milk through a tube in their nose. There are 2 sets of twins, girls and boys and 2 little girls. They are so cute but so tiny. There is only one incubator so 3 babies are in it and the others are in little cots with lots of blankets and hot water bottles. I will send you a picture of me feeding them.
School is going well with Kelly, we just do school in the mornings. There is a pool at one of the houses so we can swim in the afternoons. It is really warm, a bit windy in the mornings.
Near where we live there are pineapple fields and we have pawpaw trees in the garden as well as strawberries and rhubarb. There are no shops, just a little market nearby but people come to the house selling vegetables like cabbage and onions. We buy bananas in huge bunches off the trees.Well done Ashleigh love from Emily

Welcome to Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3. We have an exciting term ahead of us.

We are beginning our term with a topic called 'Success, Success, Success'. Through this topic and using the context of the Olympic Games D3 will develop an understanding of What is true success?.

As some of you may be aware Emily is in Africa with her family this term, so a little later we will move to 'All hands on board for Africa'.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ashleigh for her SUCCESS with tennis. Ashleigh has been accepted into the Wesley Tennis Academy in Florida. Last week D3 took a look on Google Maps, to see where she would be living. Take a peek. Well done Ashleigh, all of your hard work and training has paid off.

Perimeter & Area

Over the past couple of weeks D3 have been exploring perimeter and area alongside multiplication and division.

We managed to fit 23 people into 1m², it took several attempts and different strategies to get that many!

We also designed robots. We needed to know the perimeter and area of our robots in cm. From here we enlarged our robots on the court with a scale of 1cm:1m. Our robots were MASSIVE.
